Morpho Detection, the explosives and narcotics detection business of Morpho, Safran group's security unit, announced it has received a delivery order under a U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) new equipment contract for its explosives detection systems (EDS) valued at more than $17 million.

The detection systems are a significant part of Morpho Detection's industry-leading portfolio of Computed Tomography-based explosives detection systems (EDS). The company has nearly 2,000 EDS deployed to airports around the world, double the EDS deployments of all other manufacturers, combined.

The systems use Computed Tomography (CT) imaging technology to create images of each bag. The systems then automatically compare the contents of the bag with the properties of known threat explosives using a series of algorithms.

Morpho Detection's unique Clarity technology, found in the system enables it to screen checked luggage at higher speeds while delivering high-resolution 3D images and it was first deployed by the TSA to Mineta San Jose International Airport where eight units are integrated with the highly advanced baggage handling system.
