China's Access Control Market Primed and Ready, Says IMS Research

A significant part of future growth within the Chinese access control market will be generated from mid-end projects (50-199 doors), with a focus on port & railway, commercial, government and hospital projects. Modest in size compared to other security technologies, China’s access control market is bursting with opportunity. Large government led programs are moving aside, giving way to commercial and industrial projects of a much larger size than in previous years.

A significant part of future growth within the Chinese access control market will be generated from mid-end projects (50-199 doors), with a focus on port & railway, commercial, government and hospital projects.

Modest in size compared to other security technologies, China's access control market is bursting with opportunity. Large government led programs are moving aside, giving way to commercial and industrial projects of a much larger size than in previous years.

China's security market has experienced a major boom since 2006, when the government started its nation-wide program “safe City”. As a result of this program, the market peaked between 2008-2010 during which time, the Beijing Olympics, Shanghai Expo and Guangzhou Asia Games were also successfully held, and a massive 4 trillion RMB government stimulus funding was injected into the economy. “These events increased peoples' awareness of employing effective security products, kick-starting a massive demand for access control products”, comments Paul Everett, Research Director, IMS Research.

Everett continues, “Growth for China's access control market will remain above 12 percent for the next five years despite a cool down following the events of previous years and current economic climate. Despite the slowdown in growth, the long-term fundamentals driving growth in the market will remain”.

China's access control market is forecast to expand from Tier 1 cities with wider adoption forecast for 2nd and 3rd tier cities and from coastal regions to central and western regions. At the same time the market is also seeing greater adoption in medium and, in some circumstances, low sensitive areas. With 10 cities already populated with more than 5 million people and approximately 150 cities with more than 1 million inhabitants, urbanization is one mega trend that will continue to influence the Chinese access control market moving forward.
