Basler Megapixel Domes Secure Office Building in Bucharest

Bucharest’s city council is currently transforming Northern Bucharest into one of the city’s key areas with high-end office developments, shopping centers and upscale residential buildings. Among the new buildings is a high-profile office building offering 26,000 square meters of office space and a restaurant with a capacity of 150 seats. Four basement levels covering an area of 19,000 square meters are used for parking and storage.
Bucharest's city council is currently transforming Northern Bucharest into one of the city's key areas with high-end office developments, shopping centers and upscale residential buildings. Among the new buildings is a high-profile office building offering 26,000 square meters of office space and a restaurant with a capacity of 150 seats. Four basement levels covering an area of 19,000 square meters are used for parking and storage.

One of the world's leading professional services firms decided to rent six floors in the newly-built office building for their Romanian branch. Around 500 employees are now working at the site. The company wanted to provide a highly-effective but still unobtrusive security surveillance solution for their new Bucharest office.

The company needed a video surveillance solution for their office's corridors and for their entrance areas in particular. An important aspect to consider during evaluation of security cameras was that they should make the employees feel safe without giving them a feeling of being observed. This led to the decision to use 63 Basler network fixed dome cameras, which feature a fixed dome housing and day/night capability.

The megapixel cameras were installed on walls and ceilings using the suspended ceiling kit that Basler provides in their accessories portfolio. When used with the suspended ceiling kit, the cameras fit nicely into the surrounding ceiling area and make video surveillance as unobtrusive as possible.

When planning the video surveillance system, bandwidth consumption and storage costs were an important concern. The amount of raw data delivered by 63 cameras is huge, especially when the video data is retained for the required 30-day period. Therefore, the images captured by the cameras at the Bucharest office are only recorded by a server if motion is detected in the images. In that case, the video data captured two seconds before and 10 seconds after motion was detected is stored on a server. By using the efficient H.264 compression format, the amount of data that must be transmitted via the network and recorded by the servers is reduced even more.

The video streams from the Basler cameras are handled by Alnet video management software and observed by an operator 24 hours a day. Motion detection and the corresponding recording of video data facilitate the operator's work.
