As part of a major upgrade at Huntingdonshire College, Guardian Security selected JVC Professional's surveillance cameras together with SharpView from J2K Video, to form the center of a new enhanced video surveillance security system.

Network cameras from JVC have been fitted to strengthen the security at the college, while existing PAL cameras will be used to record onto SharpView using J2K Video's CVE range of MPEG-4 encoders.

“We chose the SharpView platform as the integration with JVC's full range of cameras is very reliable. SharpView allows us to utilize existing PAL cameras and add new network cameras into the same recorder unit which records megapixel and HD video from a range of leading manufacturers,” said Christopher Hodges, Project Manager at Guardian.

He continued, “It is the only system that can provide the future-proofing that we need for such an extensive upgrade. We can record very high resolution M-JPEG video and MPEG-4 at the same time from JVC's CCD-based VGA and megapixel cameras, and in the future we can add HD cameras with H.264 compression to the same system without additional license costs. SharpView Manager provides comprehensive functionality that includes site mapping, alarm integration and intercom control and allows us to expand the system at minimum extra costs which was a major drawback with other software systems on the market.”

Hodges said, “Guardian likes to work very close with the end user to deliver bespoke packages with full integration using quality and reliable equipment. We feel we have achieved this through our installation methods and high tech equipment that is user friendly and suitable for the environment.”

“J2K Video's system is so easy to use and the recorded video is excellent,” said Tom Berry who is responsible for college security. “We are so pleased with Guardian's choice of system and confident that the college's funds have been well invested in this state-of-the-art product. Since the upgrade we have already resolved several incidents using the SharpView and JVC system, which would otherwise have been left unresolved.”

Huntingdonshire Regional College is currently undergoing a US$4.8 million redevelopment project which will include an upgrade of internal areas of the college to create new learning and social spaces. Guardian will be involved in the continued development of the security systems for the college.
