Axis Communications, a leader in network cameras, will continue to deliver value-added solutions to different market segments in North Asia, its officials said today in a news conference.

The company divides its North Asian target customers into three distinctive system sizes: small, such as restaurants and doctor's offices with 10 or less cameras; medium, such as schools, clinics, and department stores with 10 to 100 cameras; and enterprise, such as universities, airports, and city surveillance with 100 or more cameras.

Axis has traditionally focused on enterprise-level projects due to the quality and reliability of its products. Yet the company has also made inroads into mid-sized and small market segments to service customers there.

Here in Taiwan, for example, the company has participated in enterprise-level projects such as highways and airports. Yet Axis also targets mid-sized companies with 10 to 100 cameras that can be managed by the Axis Camera Station software, and small companies with less than 10 cameras managed by Axis Camera Companion.

“Our strategy is such that we clearly define the vertical markets we want to enter, find customers in those markets that can benefit from our solutions, and expand from there,” said Fan Look, VP of North Asia at Axis.

All products and solutions come with value, enabled by Axis's cutting-edge technology that the Sweden-based company is known for. One example is the recently launched Zipstream compression technology, which reduces bandwidth and storage usage by over 50 percent.

Zipstream uses a logarithm that retains the resolution of critical elements in the image and compresses the rest. Meanwhile, it is compatible with H.264 and can support Axis Camera Station, Axis Camera Companion, and other partner software already in use. “No upgrade to the backend hardware and software is required,” said Andres Vigren, Product Manager.
