ISTCONTROL, based in Korea, was at secutech Taipei from April 28 to 30 exhibiting a range of access control products. It was their first time at the show.

“We're looking for partners and distributors, not only from Taiwan but also from other Asian countries like Singapore, Hong Kong Malaysia, and India,” said Karina Kwak, CEO of ISTCONTROL.

According to her, the company is looking to build a stronger presence in Asia. Currently, ISTCONTROL does most business in the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America.

“In Europe and the Middle East, their access control is more controller-based,” Kwak said. “Whereas in Asia, access control is more standalone, that is, controllers and readers are on the same unit. This is a less secure architecture, but then again, Asia is safer.”

The company has developed a strong access control management system capable of integration with a variety of subsystems including biometrics (both fingerprint and iris), elevator, time management, and most importantly, video.

“When someone accesses the building, he or she is shown on the screen. You can zoom in on the area, and video of the event is shown,” she said. “This has generated a lot of interest around here.”

To stay from intense price competition, the company offers various extra values to give customers more than what they pay for.

“Global brands don't customize for customers, but we do to satisfy customers' various needs,” she said.
