Based on the idea that the security industry reviews less than one percent of recorded footage, BriefCam sought to create a product that would allow users to view long hours of video in just a few short minutes. This idea is the basis behind BriefCam’s core technology of video synopsis. “The world that we live in is a world of cameras and records, and people are watching a very small portion of that video,” said Dror Irani, President and CEO of BriefCam. “When you look at the gap between what is being recorded and what is being watched, this is exactly where BriefCam is active.”

BriefCam became active in China in 2010, only two years after it was established and with less than US$1 million in sales. Despite this, the company understood that China represents about one-third of the world market, offering an abundance of opportunity, especially with a unique technology. Since, the company has established an office in Shanghai with four full-time employees.

With their unique product offering, the company has been able to find success in the public market, particularly law enforcement and public safety; however, success took time. “Our challenge was to work with law enforcement in China to introduce this technology into day to day work. It has had ups and downs, but overall we’ve been successful,” Irani said.

As a small company, BriefCam understands that in order to really succeed in China they cannot be a standalone player. Due to this, the company works very closely with local partners and is constantly seeking out more strategic partners that can take their technology and apply it to different areas that they are not currently involved in.
