Despite the recent economic recessions in Japan, Chris Cheung, GM, Japan, HK, and Mongolia of Axis Communications in Japan/HK/Mongolia, mentioned that the growth rate of network cameras remain strong and there’s a steady and healthy demand for continuous video monitoring.

Listing various vertical segments where Axis is experiencing strong growth, Cheung said that the retail market segments are where the strongest growth has been seen. “Due to the demand in migration from analog to IP and the increasing needs of video analytics, we have experienced the strongest growth in retail,” said Cheung. Other verticals that he brought up include manufacturing facilities, and especially in food processing due to standards implanted by these manufacturing plants.

Other areas of growth that Cheung brought up include a consistent growth being seen in IP video surveillance from large system businesses, as well as an increase in adoption by the SMT sector, which is now significantly higher than two or three years ago. The greater demand for video analytic solutions have also fueled demand.

In terms of analytics, Axis has especially seen further demand in the SMB sector, in addition to the large projects from before. “In the past, customers use video surveillance for security and forensic needs. Starting from last year, the driving forces have shifted from security to advanced application of video analysis. Customers can now use the data generated through the camera to create more analytical information to help drive business efficiency,” Cheung said.
