Locksystem, a manufacturer for access control in Japan comments on the Japan security industry and biometrics market. Since the Lehman’s Shock in 2008, Japan’s security industry has been doing much better, with demand for surveillance cameras across all verticals.

According to Yasuo Nagase, Advisor at Locksystem, the problem with the security industry in Japan is that it is culture rooted, and people still take security as a means of guarding goods and services. “I think the security industry will grow more rapidly when the mindsets of the Japanese industry changes from just protecting products to planning, doing, and seeing cycles,” said Nagase.

Compared to other countries, the size of the biometrics market in Japan remains small. “Japanese users have lost confidence in biometrics due to the high false matches.” However, it is predicted that biometrics in general will see growth and gain more in the market, especially in iris biometrics. “If users come to know the high performance of iris technology as well as the demand for the technology in other countries, I think we will see iris market boost in Japan,” said Nagase.
