According to William Ku, Vice President of the International Business Division at VIVOTEK, when compared to other developed countries, the Asian region has enjoyed better economic growth and has been regarded as an emerging market. “People living in this region are having more and more purchasing power. With this growth, retail markets in most of the Asian countries are booming,” said Ku. “Retail markets with strong security demands have been one of VIVOTEK's business focuses. No matter in developed or in developing countries, revenue and inventory shrinkage have always been regarded as a serious issue among retail stores.”

As Ku elaborated, customer theft, shoplifting, fraudulent employees, supplier fraud and pricing, and process or accounting mistakes are the key factors behind the retail issues. VIVOTEK believes that an effective and comprehensive surveillance system can prevent these occurrences and minimize shrinkages and risks while ensuring the safety of staff and customers. At the same time, an effective surveillance system can also “realize seamless monitoring and capture clear footages of customers in key spots, such as cashier counters, commodity shelves, and entrances,” Ku stated.

“Not just for security purposes, a surveillance system can be further leveraged as a tool to improve business efficiency. With technological evolution and advancement, the adoption of intelligent video content analysis is on the rise. Luxury retail stores can make good use of these video footages capture by cameras for further content analysis. From these, retail stores can recognize when VIPs enter the store, count the time a shopper spends in an area, and reduce the time clients spend waiting for in-store service,” Ku explained. With intelligent video analysis functions, retail stores can strengthen their operation and service quality. Expanding on the luxury retail stores market with high-valued assets, “they always look for a surveillance system with high image quality and elegant appearances,” said Ku. “In those luxury retail stores, elegantly designed cameras are especially required since they can not only avoid inconvenience to clients by minimizing the uncomfortable feeling of being monitored, but also fit to the chic and fashion interior deco,” he said.
