VIVOTEK demos compression, intelligent solutions at secutech

VIVOTEK, a leading Taiwan video surveillance manufacturer, showcased its latest compression and intelligent solutions at secutech this year, demonstrating how they can benefit retail, transportation, and other sectors.

For compression, VIVOTEK displayed more than 20 camera models supporting its latest Smart Stream II technology, which effectively cuts bandwidth and storage usage by some 80 percent.

For intelligent solutions, VIVOTEK showcased its stereo dual-lens network camera that enables accurate tracking of objects moving across the field of view. Whether adults or children, single individuals or groups, they can be distinguished from non-human objects such as shopping carts and strollers, providing accurate counting analytics.

“With two lenses, the camera can better assess people’s height and determine how many people have passed. For typical cameras the accuracy is 80 to 85 percent, but with our technology the accuracy rate has been roosted to 95 to 98 percent,” said William Ku, VP of Brand Business Division at VIVOTEK.

He added that retailers can use this technology to find out what aisles are visited most or what are the store’s peak hours, and make related strategies accordingly.

For transportation, VIVOTEK has license plate recognition (LPR) solutions that effectively track vehicles that are blacklisted or have violated traffic laws. The company also places a strong focus on mobility, enabling retail and factory users to monitor their venues remotely with their smartphone or tablets.

VIVOTEK has built a reputation for offering enterprise-level solutions for the higher-end segment of the market. But the company has also begun to target entry-level customers. A major focus of the firm is to expand its offerings, widening the price gap between the lower end of its portfolio and the higher end.

The company has announced a partnership deal with Genetec targeting SMB users, who get VIVOTEK’s IP cameras and store videos in the cloud through Genetec’s cloud platform. One way to reach the end user is through telecom operators who offer the service in exchange for a monthly fee. “Genetec has strong ties with telcos, and we can leverage that to reach more SMBs,” Ku said.

VIVOTEK expects further growth from developed markets this year, including North America and Europe where the company focuses more on retail and transportation. In Asia, VIVOTEK already has a good presence in Taiwan and Japan, and will work to develop mature markets such as Singapore and Australia this year.

The company has already achieved a turnaround in terms of sales, reporting double-digit year-over-year growth for six months in a row, from October 2015 to March this year. For the whole 2015, it reported a 12.4 percent growth.
